Police Find Shotgun, Ammo in Pomona Homeless Encampment, No Arrests

A shotgun and several boxes of ammunition were recovered from a homeless encampment in Pomona Thursday, the second time in a week that a weapon was found at a homeless camp in the city.
Officers with the Pomona Police Department’s Homeless Encampment Action Response Team went to an area between the Orange (57) Freeway and the 2800 block of Pomona Boulevard after receiving complaints of a large encampment, shots fired nightly and someone using a barbecue on a hillside, according to Sgt. Brad Paulson.
The encampment is near a storm drain on Caltrans property and is the same area that caught fire earlier this year. Due to the high fire danger, the encampment was removed, Paulson said.
During the removal, a shotgun and boxes of ammunition were found, along with evidence that the weapon had recently been fired in the area, Paulson said.
Officers recovered a sawed off shotgun from a transient encampment on July 23, Paulson said.
No arrests were reported in connection with either discovery.
Pomona city officials and Caltrans are working to remove the remaining debris from the encampment and better secure the area.
