by Contributing Editor

An attempted murder suspect was taken into custody Saturday morning in Sylmar following a pursuit on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway that ended in a crash.

Authorities were alerted around midnight to be on the lookout for the suspect out of Yuba City and officers spotted the suspect about 1:45 a.m. on the Golden State Freeway near McBean Parkway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers attempted to stop the suspect, who fled, the CHP said.

The suspect crashed his vehicle near the Hollywood (170) Freeway and ran off toward Laurel Canyon Boulevard, ABC7 reported.

CHP officers requested assistance from the Los Angeles Police Department, which provided a K-9 unit to assist in a search for the suspect.

The suspect, who was not immediately identified, was taken into custody at 4:40 a.m. The exact location where the suspect was arrested was not disclosed.

Yuba City is located in northern California, about 40 miles north of Sacramento.
