Three people were taken to hospitals after a car crashed into a utility pole in Hawthorne, causing a power outage affecting dozens of customers Monday, authorities said.
The crash was at about 7 p.m. Sunday near 135th Street and Prairie Avenue, Hawthorne police Sgt. I. Elliott said.
It appeared the crash was caused when the driver “had an unknown medical situation,” and the man was taken to a hospital for that and an injury believed minor, Elliott said. A man and a woman who were passengers were taken to hospitals “as a precaution,” he said.
The sergeant did not know how many Edison customers were initially affected, but power was restored to many, he said.
About 180 customers were still without power at 3:30 a.m. but it should be restored by 7 a.m., according to Edison’s website.
