The Orange County coroner’s office Monday publicly identified a 59-year-old man who died after he crossed a street in Huntington Beach outside a crosswalk and was struck by a vehicle.
Gil Vasquez was a Midway City resident, Supervising Deputy Coroner Art Baron said.
The crash was at 10:50 p.m. Friday in the area of Beach Boulevard and Blaylock Drive and officers located the victim on the sidewalk, Huntington Beach police Sgt. Eric Warken said.
“The pedestrian sustained major trauma and was transported to the UCI Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries,” Warken said.
The man was struck by a 1999 black and purple Saturn driven by a 52-year-old Huntington Beach woman as he crossed Beach Boulevard outside a crosswalk and walked into the path of the northbound vehicle, the sergeant said. The driver remained at the scene.
