The gunman who fatally shot a 27-year-old woman in East Hollywood after following her as she walked near an apartment complex is at-large Friday morning.
Gunfire was reported about 2:20 p.m. Thursday in the 900 block of North Oxford Avenue, south of Romaine Street, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Tony Im said.
“Suspect was a male, possibly Hispanic, wearing shorts and a blue shirt and he took off northbound (on Oxford Avenue) on foot,” according to LAPD Lt. John Radtke.
An ambulance was called to the scene for a woman who was down in the driveway of an apartment complex, not conscious or breathing, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Distraught family members told reporters the victim was 27-year-old Cindy Lopez, who lived nearby with her mother and had been studying for a career in law.
A motive for the shooting was unknown.
“We’re still talking to everybody, talking to family members, talking to everybody in the area,” Radtke said. “We don’t know if the two know one another or not, but it does appear this is not a random act.”
