Police Investigating Death of Man Dropped Off at Chula Vista Hospital

A man suffering from a gunshot wound was dropped off at a Chula Vista hospital early Friday morning and died a short time later.
The gunshot victim showed up about 12:45 a.m. at Scripps Mercy Hospital Chula Vista, according to Chula Vista police Lt. Dan Peak and Lt. Thomas Seiver of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Unit.
NBC7 reported the gunshot wound was to the man’s head.
The man, whose age was not immediately available, was pronounced dead shortly after 1 a.m., Seiver said. His name was withheld pending family notification.
Chula Vista detectives, who are investigating it as a “suspicious death,” believe the shooting occurred at a residence in the 400 block of Seventh Street, near Basswood Avenue, in Imperial Beach, according to Seiver.
Information about a suspect was not immediately available.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death, Peak said.
