by Contributing Editor

A man was killed Friday afternoon in a possibly gang-related shooting in Huntington Park, the city’s second fatal shooting in just over 24 hours.

The shooting Friday occurred about 3:45 p.m. in the 6500 block of Templeton Street, near East Gage Avenue, according to Deputy Erin Liu of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which is assisting Huntington Park police with the investigation.

Authorities were searching for a male suspect and said they believe the shooting may be gang-related, according to Sgt. Joe Settles of the Huntington Park Police Department. The suspect’s name is not known, Settles said.

Another fatal shooting occurred at about 3:20 p.m. Thursday about a half-mile away in Huntington Park, in the 7000 block of Rita Avenue.

It was not immediately clear if the two shootings were related. “I couldn’t even answer that, it’s still being investigated,” Huntington Park police Sgt. Richard Maretti told City News Service.

Anyone with information about either fatal shooting was encouraged to contact the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Those who wish to report anonymously can call 800-222-TIPS.
