Two Booked on Suspicion of Attempted Murder in Beating Attack in Azusa

by Contributing Editor

Two Azusa residents are in custody Thursday in connection with the baseball bat beating of a 47-year-old man who’s hospitalized in critical condition, police reported.

Officers were called to the 900 block of North Sunset Avenue about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday to investigate an assault and found the severely injured victim, whose name was withheld, according to Azusa police Lt. Robert Chivas.

Investigators identified two suspects at the scene who were arrested without incident, Chivas said.

Albert Chavez, 19, and Robert Bucher, 39, were booked on suspicion of attempted murder at the Azusa station, with bail set at $2 million for each suspect, according to police, who did not offer a motive for the attack or indicate whether the suspects knew the victim.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Detective Mario Corona at 626-812-3200.
