A known Pomona gang member who was recently released from jail as part of the early release program was jailed Saturday morning in lieu of $50,000 bail on a variety of gun and drug charges following a traffic stop in Pomona.
Officers stopped a vehicle in the 700 block of Loma Vista Street for a window tint and stop sign violation. As the vehicle pulled over, a passenger bolted from the vehicle and an officer chased and caught him, according to Sgt. M. Medellin of the Pomona Police Department.
The suspect was identified by officers as Ronnie “Rabbit” Ruvalcaba, 29, a local gang member with numerous arrests for gang-related crimes, including the possession of illegal and loaded guns, Medellin said.
Ruvalcaba was holding heroin when officers arrested him and a search of the vehicle he was in turned up a loaded .357 handgun where he had been seated, Medellin said.
Ruvalcaba, who had recently been released as part of the early release program, was booked at the Pomona city jail on weapons and drug charges with gang enhancement and a parole violation.
