Man Charged in Baldwin Park Killing

by Contributing Editor

Authorities Tuesday announced the arrest of a transient from the Lomita area in connection with the shotgun killing of a 19-year-old man in Baldwin Park just over two weeks ago.

Anthony Angel Knight, 28, was taken into custody Thursday at Lomita Park during an undercover operation in connection with the June 14 slaying of Brian Morales, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The victim was shot outside his home in the 4000 block of Phelan Avenue in Baldwin Park, authorities said.

A sawed-off, 12-gauge shotgun that was allegedly used in the shooting was recovered, according to the sheriff’s department.

Knight remains jailed in lieu of $4.5 million bail, according to jail records.

He is set to be arraigned on a murder charge July 6 in a Pomona courtroom, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Authorities have not disclosed a motive for the killing, but said earlier that it was being investigated as possibly gang-related.
