An inmate found unconscious in his cell at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside was pronounced dead at a hospital, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department reported Friday.
The inmate, whose name was withheld pending notification of his family, was discovered unresponsive in his cell about 9 p.m. Thursday, according to sheriff’s Capt. Daniel Anne.
“Custody staff and jail medical staff administered life-saving measures and the inmate was transported, via ambulance, to a local hospital for continued medical attention,” Anne said in a prepared statement. “The inmate never recovered and was pronounced deceased a short while later at the hospital.”
Foul play is not suspected in the man’s death, according to Anne, who declined to provide any additional information, citing the ongoing investigation.
It was not immediately clear if the man was convicted of a crime or awaiting trial.
