Alleged Gang Member Arrested in Azusa for Possessing Firearm

by Contributing Editor

A 38-year-old “documented” gang member was arrested in Azusa Friday for allegedly possessing a firearm and ammunition as a felon, a police sergeant said.

Azusa police, as well as the Upland Police Department K9 Unit, were conducting a search warrant at Marty Anthony Michaels’ home regarding a felon in possession of a firearm investigation, according to Sgt. Seth Chapman of the Azusa Police Department, saying Michaels is a “documented” gang member.

Michaels was uncooperative with officers, refused to exit his residence and demanded they go away, Chapman said.

A SWAT team was called in to deescalate the situation, and officers were able to search the residence, according to Chapman.

They found a loaded handgun, and Michaels was arrested.

It was not immediately clear what previous crimes Michaels had committed, but this was his third arrest since April 2018, according to sheriff’s department records.
