Two Long Beach Brothers in Custody in April Stabbing Death of Man

by Contributing Editor

Two brothers were in custody Friday in connection with the stabbing death of a man in Long Beach in April.

Enrique Cienfuegos, 35, and Daniel Cienfuegos, 33, both of Long Beach, were arrested Thursday for their alleged involvement in the killing that occurred about 5 p.m. April 6 in the 400 block of Zona Court, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The wounded man, who was 60 and from Long Beach, died at the scene. His identity has not been released.

Enrique Cienfuegos was arrested in Compton while attending a court hearing on “an unrelated matter,” police said. He was booked on suspicion of murder, and was being held on $2 million bail.

Daniel Cienfuegos was arrested at an undisclosed location and was booked on suspicion of witness intimidation and being an accessory after the fact, with bail set at $500,000, police said.

“Both counts are a result of evidence revealing Daniel’s involvement in intimidating any potential witnesses to the stabbing not to come forward,” police allege. “The second count is a result of detectives collecting evidence (that) Daniel was aware of the murder and assisted his sibling in avoiding or escaping from arrest, trial, concealing evidence, avoiding capture, or avoiding prosecution.”

Detectives expect to present their case on both suspects to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office early next week for filing consideration, police said.
