LAPD Commander Returns To Work After Recovering From COVID-19

A Los Angeles Police Department commander who has served the department for 34 years returned to work after testing positive for COVID-19, according to a report broadcast Thursday.

Cmdr. Cody Palka tested positive for the virus in March, and his symptoms began as mild, “shortness of breath, exhaustion, slight fever, cough,” according to KCAL.

His fever got higher, and his shortness of breath and exhaustion worsened. He found out he had the virus nine days after being tested, KCAL reported.

“I think I’m in relatively good health,” Palka told KCAL. “I subscribe to a plant-based nutrition that I’ve had for many years.

“I cycle and do many of the department’s requirements or suggestions regarding maintaining a healthy lifestyle and I feel all of this contributed to me coming out of this in a healthy way.”

Palka’s wife also showed symptoms, though milder. She had a cough, fatigue, a sore throat and was presumed to have contracted the coronavirus, Palka told KCAL9.

It is unclear how Palka contracted the coronavirus, but the department is investigating that, KCAL9 reported.

As of Thursday, 50 LAPD employees have tested positive for the coronavirus.
