Three Burglary Suspects Arrested on 2 Freeway in Glendale After Pursuit, Crash

by Contributing Editor

Three people were arrested on suspicion of burglary Sunday after a pursuit and crash on a Glendale freeway offramp, according to a sheriff’s sergeant.

The pursuit on the Glendale (2) Freeway began when a deputy from the Crescenta Valley station attempted to stop a reckless driver whose speeds allegedly hit 100 miles per hour, said sheriff’s Sgt. John Gilbert.

That was at 9:30 a.m. Less than 20 minutes later, the sheriff’s department shut down the onramp to the southbound 2 Freeway at Mountain Avenue and requested the California Highway Patrol issue a SigAlert, said CHP Officer Stephan Brandt.

The deputies were concerned about the potential danger to other drivers, Gilbert said.

A short time later, the deputy who initiated the pursuit discovered the car had crashed at the Mountain Avenue offramp.

Three people were detained by deputies at the scene and a large amount of jewelry was found inside their car, he said.

Deputies learned a burglary had taken place at a home in the 800 block of Lynnhaven Lane in La Canada Flintridge. The owners of the home came to the scene and identified the jewelry as theirs, Gilbert said.

The suspects were then arrested and booked for burglary, he said. Their names were not immediately released.

The SigAlert was canceled at 4:20 p.m., Brandt said.
