BIG PINES — A 58-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle traffic crash on Big Pines Highway, west of Angeles Crest Highway, in Big Pines, the California Highway Patrol said Sunday.

The crash occurred on the westbound highway, a little before 3:20 p.m. Saturday, the CHP reported. Big Pines is a community in the Angeles National Forest, northwest of Wrightwood.

The motorist, Rodman Carr Hart, of Rosamond, Kern County, was going about 50 miles per hour in a 2002 BMW when he encountered some small rock debris in the roadway.

Hart made a turning movement to avoid the debris, lost control of his car and it overturned onto its right side, colliding with the roadway.

Paramedics rushed him to Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, where he later died from his injuries.

The CHP’s Antelope Valley office asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at 661-948-8541.
