A 38-year-old man was charged Thursday in an alcohol-fueled crash in Huntington Beach that injured his wife, their three young children and another driver involved in the collision.

Nicholas Dean Donahue pleaded not guilty Thursday at his arraignment in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana to three felony counts of child abuse and endangerment, a misdemeanor count of child abuse and endangerment and a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury.

Donahue also faces sentencing enhancement allegations for causing great bodily injury on the girl hurt in the accident as for causing great bodily injury to a child younger than 5 for the two boys, according to court records.

Donahue was driving a Chevy Tahoe when he got into some sort of altercation with his wife and crashed head on with a Hyundai just before 4:40 p.m. Tuesday at Pacific Coast Highway and Seapoint Street, Huntington Beach Police Officer Angela Bennett said.

Three boys and a girl, all younger than 6 years old, were not secured properly in the back seat when the collision happened and were hospitalized for their injuries, Bennett said.

Donahue’s wife was also injured in the crash as was the Hyundai’s driver.

Donahue was ordered to return to court for a pretrial hearing on Sept. 27 in the West Justice Center in Westminster.
