Four Arrested in Santa Monica After Heist at `Heist Jewelry’

by Contributing Editor

Four suspects — three of them juveniles — have been arrested after a jewelry heist at a shop in Santa Monica called Heist Jewelry.

Officers were called to the store in the 1200 block of Montana Avenue about 2:35 p.m. Thursday and learned that a sledgehammer-wielding suspect whose face was covered entered the business and smashed a display case, according to Santa Monica Police Department Lt. Candice Cobarrubias.

“The owner immediately intervened and was able to push the suspect outside of the store,” Cobarrubias said. “A second suspect carrying a sledgehammer approached the owner and struck him with it. The owner sustained minor injuries from the attack.”

The suspects fled in an awaiting car and police located it in the 1100 block of Wilshire Boulevard, where it was stopped and all three suspects were taken into custody, Cobarrubias said.

A fourth suspect was located in the area of Euclid Street and Idaho Avenue.

“Evidence of the crime was found and taken into police custody,” the lieutenant said.

The adult suspect was booked on suspicion of conspiracy, assault with a deadly weapon and robbery and the juveniles were booked on suspicion of conspiracy, robbery and assault, she said.

The ages and genders of the suspects were withheld, as was the adult suspect’s name.

“Detectives are still working on the case,” Cobarrubias said.
