Soccer Coach Accused of Molesting Girl Arraigned

by Contributing Editor

A San Jacinto youth soccer coach accused of molesting a girl pleaded not guilty Monday to lewd acts on a child under 14 years old.

Eric Daniel Rath, 54, was arrested last month following a Riverside County sheriff’s investigation into his alleged illicit contact with the victim, identified in court documents only as “S.U.”

Rath was arraigned before Riverside County Superior Court Judge Becky Dugan, who scheduled a felony settlement conference for Aug. 19 at the Banning Justice Center.

The defendant is being held in lieu of $55,000 bail at the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta.

Rath allegedly groped and performed other unspecified sex acts on the child in early July. The location of the alleged molestation and whether the victim was a soccer player were not disclosed.

Rath was a walk-on coach for the San Jacinto Leadership Academy, a military-type middle school within the San Jacinto Unified School District.

According to published reports, the defendant began coaching there in February. He resigned immediately prior to his July 11 arrest.

Social media profiles indicate Rath was additionally involved in coaching girls’ soccer in Menifee and Temecula.

He has no documented prior felony convictions in Riverside County.
