Police Arrest Man Suspected of Slaying Two People in Murrieta

by Contributing Editor

A 25-year-old man was arrested Saturday in connection with the killing of two people at a Murrieta home, police said.

The bodies of the two victims were discovered by officers at 9:41 p.m. Friday inside a residence in the 2400 block of Jonquil Circle, a cul-de-sac off Jefferson Avenue, according to the Murrieta Police Department.

Officers were at the location conducting a welfare check that was prompted by a concerned out-of-town caller who was unable to contact family members at the home, police said. When officers arrived, nobody answered the door, but after gaining access to the home, they found two people dead inside, police said.

Officers also encountered a man they described as uncooperative and who barricaded himself in the residence, triggering an hours-long standoff with police.

A SWAT team was called to the scene and the man, identified as Andrew Burke, was arrested at 2:39 a.m. He was booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center on suspicion of two counts of second-degree murder and remained jailed in lieu of $1 million bail.

“The investigation is ongoing but appears to be domestic related and contained to the residence,” police said.
