A pedestrian was struck and killed by one of two vehicles that collided in the Fairfax area, and one of the motorists was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence, police said Friday.
The crash occurred on Melrose Avenue at Martel Avenue about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Authorities originally thought that the pedestrian was on an electric scooter, but later determined that was not the case.
The pedestrian died at a hospital. Information was not immediately available on his identity.
“A 2018 Infiniti Q60S that was traveling eastbound on Melrose Avenue collided with a 2017 Acura MDX that was negotiating a left turn to Martel Avenue from westbound Melrose Avenue,” according to an LAPD statement. “As a result of the collision, the Acura continued in a southeast direction, ran off the road, and collided with a pedestrian … standing on the sidewalk at the southeast corner of the intersection.”
Both motorists remained at the scene. Jacob Gralitzer, 27, the driver of the Infiniti, was arrested and booked on suspicion of “gross vehicular manslaughter while DUI,” police said. He was released on $100,000 bond about 8 a.m. Friday, according to the sheriff’s department.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call detectives at 213-473-0234, or 877-LAPD-247.
