Man Accused of Breaking into Home in Retirement Community to Commit Sex Crime

by Contributing Editor

A 20-year-old man was behind bars Thursday on suspicion of breaking into a retirement community in Aliso Viejo to sexually assault an elderly woman.

Jorge Hernandez Saucedo Jr. of Laguna Niguel was booked at the Orange County Jail on suspicion of burglary with the intent to commit a sex offense, with bail set at $1 million, according to Carrie Braun of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

About 4:20 a.m. Wednesday, a nurse at a retirement community near the 24000 block of Moulton Parkway “was alerted to a resident in distress,” according to a sheriff’s statement. “The nurse and a security guard responded and encountered the suspect inside the residence and holding a pair of scissors. The 84-year-old female victim was lying in bed, partially disrobed.”

As the suspect attempted to flee, he stabbed the nurse in the hand, according to Braun, who said the nurse was treated at an area hospital and released.

Deputies spotted Saucedo a few blocks away from the retirement community and took him into custody about 4:30 a.m., she said.

Saucedo is expected to be arraigned Friday.

Because of the brazen nature of the crime, investigators believe the suspect may have a history of unreported criminal offenses, according to Braun. Anyone with information they believe may assist the investigation was asked to contact the sheriff’s Special Victim’s Detail at 714-647-7419, or submit an anonymous tip to OC Crime Stoppers at 855-847-6227 or at occrimestoppers.org.
