Local FBI aids in search for missing toddler whose parents died in murder-suicide

by City News Service

LOS ANGELES — The FBI’s Los Angeles office issued a bulletin Saturday requesting help locating a 2-year-old Medford, Oregon, boy whose parents died in a murder-suicide in Kalispell, Montana.

An intense search was underway to locate the toddler, according to Laura Eimiller of the local FBI office, who added that there was no known connection to Southern California, but “many of the West Coast field offices are pushing this out to cast a wide net.”

Aiden Salcido was last seen in the Medford area June 4, the FBI said. His father shot his mother to death and then killed himself Wednesday following a police pursuit in Kalispell, the FBI said.

The search began after Aiden’s parents Daniel Salcido and Hannah Janiak were convicted of burglary in Medford and Janiak failed to show up for sentencing June 11.

Financial records indicated Janiak bought camping equipment at a Medford Walmart June 3 and 4, the FBI said.

Relatives and friends told authorities they had no contact with Salcido and Janiak, the FBI said. They told authorities the trio were homeless and camped along the greenway in Medford. They said Janiak had mental health issues.

The parents were in a green 1996 GMC Jimmy when they led Kalispell police on a pursuit and the murder-suicide occurred, the FBI said. There was no evidence of a child having been in the vehicle.

Aiden is described as Hispanic, 2 feet 6 inches tall, 45 pounds with brown hair and eyes. He was born Aug. 23, 2016, so he is nearing his third birthday.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 800-THE-LOST (843-5678) or Medford police at 541-774-2250.
