LAWA Names New Deputy Director of Law Enforcement, Homeland Security

Los Angeles World Airports Wednesday announced that Chief of Airport Police David Maggard has been named deputy executive director for law enforcement and homeland security.
“As we transform our airports and operate in an ever more complex environment, we need leadership that can anticipate and adapt to innovations and emerging threats in the security landscape. David Maggard has the strategic, forward-thinking vision that we need at this critical time for LAX and Van Nuys airports,” LAWA CEO Deborah Flint said.
Maggard has served as the chief for almost three years and will continue to serve in that role, in addition to his new one, until his replacement is named. His appointment will become effective Aug. 5., and LAWA officials said recruitment for the position of chief of police will begin immediately.
“I look forward to collaboratively leading our efforts to keep our airports safe and bring the highest level of public safety service to our passengers and employees,” Maggard said.
In his new role, Maggard will provide leadership management and policy direction to all law enforcement and security staff at LAX and Van Nuys Airport and coordinate with other law-enforcement agencies, lead counter-terrorism efforts and emergency management.
LAWA officials said Maggard provided key insight to the development of the Airport Police Facility and planning for security for the Landside Access Modernization Program, both of which are currently under construction.
Before becoming chief at LAWA, Maggard served as an assistant to the chief and was the chief of police for the city of Irvine.
