Homicide Victim Was Popular Local Drummer

The 48-year-old man found beaten to death in an Anaheim cul-de-sac over the weekend was the drummer for the local punk rock band Knightenders, who intend to play their next show — scheduled for Wednesday night in Anaheim — in honor of him, it was reported Monday.

Officers dispatched at 2:55 a.m. Saturday to the 1500 block of West Center Street by a passerby discovered David Patrick McCabe of Dana Point suffering from “injuries consistent with blunt force trauma,” Anaheim Police Sgt. Daron Wyatt said.

“Detectives are not commenting on possible motives at this time,” Wyatt said.

McCabe played drums for Knightenders, according to the OC Register, which cited Mike McGarvey, who owns a rehearsal studio around the corner from where the body was found.

The band’s singer, Minnie Green, told the newspaper that McCabe was a big inspiration to her.

“If it weren’t for him, I would never have fronted a band, or even tried karaoke,” she said. “He really brought me out of my shell. He was no poser.”

The band was scheduled to perform Wednesday night at the Doll Hut in Anaheim, and they posted on social media that the show will go on.

Green’s Facebook page showed the following post: “RIP SUPER DAVE!!! We will gather at this INVADE 7/24 TO HONOR DAVE!! Bring candles, Knights armor, and BENEVOLENCE. Knightenders will do our best to play without him, Sheik Yerbouti aka Jason Misfit will be stepping in on drums. 9:15pm set time.”

Anaheim police asked anyone who witnessed the attack to call Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.
