Police asked for the public’s help Sunday evening to identify the hit-and-run driver that struck and fatally injured a man riding his bicycle in the Jefferson Park area of Los Angeles, authorities said.

The crash happened at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday in the area of Denker Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard, Los Angeles police Officer Rosario Cervantes said.

According to police, the bicyclist was heading west on Jefferson Boulevard near Denker Avenue, along with his girlfriend, who was on a separate bicycle.

A dark-colored sedan hit the man, throwing the man from the bike.

The man’s girlfriend was not struck.

The driver then sped away, heading west on Jefferson Boulevard.

Paramedics responded to the scene and took the man to a hospital where he died from his injuries, police said.

The man’s name was withheld pending notification of kin.

Anyone who provides police with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the hit-and-run driver would be eligible for a reward of up to $25,000 through the city’s Hit and Run Reward Program Trust Fund.

Anyone with information on the driver was asked to call the LAPD’s South Traffic Division at 323-421-2500.

Tipsters can also call the LAPD’s 24-hour tipline at 877-527-3247 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
