The California Highway Patrol Thursday was investigating a collision on the southbound Orange (57) Freeway in San Dimas that left a 22-year-old woman and a 5-month-old baby boy with major injuries.

The crash was reported about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday near Covina Boulevard and prompted the closure of all southbound lanes of the freeway until at least 2 a.m.

According to the CHP, a 25-year-old Pomona man was headed southbound in a 2015 Honda north of Arrow Highway when the vehicle rear-ended a 2018 Kia in which the woman and infant were passengers.

The Honda driver sustained moderate injuries but the woman suffered a broken thigh bone and a lacerated liver and the child had major head trauma, the CHP reported.

The woman was not using a safety restraint, according to a CHP report. It’s unclear if the child was properly secured in the vehicle.

All three victims were taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center.

Traffic was diverted off the freeway at Arrow Highway following the crash, the cause of which was under investigation.
