Reward Offered for Capture of Suspect Who Killed Woman

A $10,000 reward is being offered to anyone with information that leads to the apprehension and successful prosecution of the man who fatally shot a Riverside woman during an interrupted car burglary last month.
Linda Ferguson, 50, was killed in the predawn hours of June 6 after a shot was fired into her residence in the 3000 block of Cedar Street, near Houghton Avenue, according to Riverside police.
On Tuesday night, the Riverside City Council authorized the reward as an incentive for witnesses to contact investigators in the hope details might surface that point police to the suspect responsible for the slaying.
“Although forensic evidence was collected in the area, the investigation conducted so far has developed few leads,” Officer Ryan Railsback said. “Detectives believe there may be witnesses or people with information related to this crime who have yet to come forward.”
Railsback said that Ferguson and her male companion, whose identity was not disclosed, were awakened about 3:40 a.m. on June 6 when an unidentified man attempted to break into the boyfriend’s vehicle parked across the street.
The car owner shouted at the would-be burglar, who jumped into a white sedan, as if preparing to flee the location, investigators said.
“A few moments later, a single gunshot was fired into the residence, and the suspect vehicle was seen leaving the area,” according to a police statement.
Ferguson was struck in the upper body, gravely wounded. Her boyfriend was not hurt.
She was taken to Riverside Community Hospital, where she died less than an hour later.
