Black Lives Matter Protest Draws Hundreds in Downtown L.A.

There won’t be many fireworks in the sky to celebrate the Fourth of July this year, but there were nearly some fireworks on the ground Saturday in front of City Hall during a Black Lives Matter demonstration.
The rally drew hundreds of people, some beating on drums, other waving signs. Leading the march to City Hall steps on Spring Street was a truck where a woman using a bullhorn urged people on, shouting “Black Lives Matter.”
One Black man dressed in camouflage gear and wearing an American flag draped over his right shoulder started waving a Trump T-shirt near the truck.
The lone counter-demonstrator immediately drew a crowd and some other men began pushing him away from the truck. Meanwhile the counter-demonstrator started running around the truck waving his T-shirt in front of the faces of the BLM protesters.
More demonstrators surrounded the man, pushing and threatening him, while other demonstrators formed a small bubble around the man to protect him from potential harm. The man finally backed down the street in the face of overwhelming odds and the protest continued without violence.
The demonstration was scheduled to run from noon until 3 p.m., according to Los Angeles Police Officer Tony Im.
No arrests were reported, Im said, and there were officers on the scene monitoring the demonstration.
