City of Riverside police, firefighters and code enforcement officers confiscated about 170 pounds of fireworks Friday night and were expecting an even bigger haul Saturday evening.
The city’s fireworks enforcement team responded to 134 calls for service related to fireworks on Friday and issued 21 citations, officials said.
All fireworks are illegal in Riverside and fines begin at $1,000.
“We anticipate the night of July 4th will be even more busy with fireworks calls and complaints, and we will have just as many officers, firefighters, and code enforcement officers patrolling our streets looking for those who choose to defy the local law,” a police statement said.
