Pomona police Saturday arrested a convicted felon after a traffic stop when they found him in possession of a firearm, a stolen police radio and methamphetamine, authorities said.
The arrest occurred at 12:16 a.m. at Garey and Harrison avenues, according to Pomona police Sgt. Mark Medellin of the Major Crimes Task Force.
`They noticed a vehicle, with tinted windows, weaving through traffic,” Medellin said. “When officers contacted the driver, who was identified as, Jesus Hernandez, they learned he was unlicensed.”
Hernandez, a 27 year-old Pomona resident, admitted to officers that he had methamphetamine in his car, the sergeant said. A subsequent search led officers to discover a .357 caliber handgun and a stolen police radio.
Since Hernandez was a convicted felon, he was prohibited from possessing firearms, Medellin said. He was also found to have an outstanding no bail warrant for alleged vehicle theft. Hernandez was known to have been involved in previous gang activity, the sergeant said.
