Pomona police arrested a felon Saturday wanted for a probation violation who allegedly tried to flee on a bicycle, then on foot.
It happened at 2:30 p.m. at Palmer street and Butterfield Road, according to Sgt. Mark Medellin of the Pomona police Major Crimes Task Force.
“Carlos Sosa, a known gang member, was spotted as he rode a bicycle through the neighborhood in which he resides.” Medellin said. “Officers knew Sosa to have an active warrant out for his arrest that was related to a violation of his probation terms.
“Sosa first attempted to evade Officers on his bike, and then ran away from Officers in his second attempt to escape,” he said.
Officers found a handgun that was missing a serial number inside Sosa’s bedroom, the sergeant said. As a convicted felon, Sosa was prohibited from possessing firearms.
He was taken into custody on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, a probation violation and obliterating the identification of a firearm, Medellin said.
