A woman who apparently was shot in an alley in Santa Ana died a short time later at a hospital, and her killer was at large Thursday, police said.
Officers sent to the 2100 block of West Myrtle Street about 9:35 p.m. Wednesday on a report of a shooting found signs that a crime had occurred, but no victim, police said.
About five minutes later, a group of people arrived at an area hospital with a woman who had suffered a gunshot wound.
“Medical personnel exited the hospital to render aid,” according to a police statement. “Doctors brought the woman into the hospital, where they attempted life-saving measures. The victim succumbed to her injuries and the attending physician declared her deceased at 9:46 p.m.”
Authorities withheld the woman’s name, pending notification of her relatives.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call homicide detectives at 714-245-8390, or Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.
