Man Arrested for Weapon Violation in Glendale

by Contributing Editor

A man was arrested for allegedly carrying a loaded firearm in public after officers went to a residential parking lot on a report of a disturbance, Glendale police reported Wednesday.

Officers sent to the 1000 block of East Garfield Avenue last Thursday arrested Jonathan Esquivel, 23, of Glendale, said Glendale police Lt. Dan Suttles.

“This call was especially sensitive in light of the social distancing regulations set in place by the Los Angeles County Public Health Department,” Suttles said.

“Upon arrival, officers observed a group of six males huddled around a vehicle, some of whom were holding beer bottles and wearing gloves,” Suttles said. “The group separated as officers approached. All of the males were detained and warned regarding their social distancing behaviors.”

Suttles said police found a case containing a .22-caliber pistol with a full magazine.

“Ultimately, it was discovered that the case containing the pistol and magazine belonged to … Esquivel, (who) was subsequently arrested for carrying a loaded firearm in public,” Suttles said.
