DEA Announces Tip Line Aimed at Cracking Down on Illegal Medication Trade

by Contributing Editor

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency’s San Diego field office announced Monday that the public can report suspicious, fraudulent and illegal pharmaceutical activities by calling a newly established tip line.

The “RxAbuse Tip Line” was set up to gather information about doctors or pharmacists who are illegally dispensing medication, and people who are “doctor shopping” or “pill seeking” for illegal purposes, according to the DEA.

The tip line will allow members of the public to remain anonymous and speak directly to a DEA representative.

“The purpose of this tip line is to allow the San Diego community to feel comfortable submitting any and all information they have on bad actors,” said Evandela Dortch, the DEA’s Diversion Program manager in San Diego. “We hope that these tips will lead to further identification of doctors, pharmacists, and pill seekers who are fueling the opioid crisis that we are currently experiencing.”

Tipsters can reach the line by calling 571-324-6499 or by visiting the Diversion Control Division’s website at www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/.
