Man tries to run over cop in Burbank, caught in Whitter, authorities say

by City News Service

A man was in custody Monday morning after he led law enforcement officers on a high-speed pursuit that started when he tried to run over a police officer in Burbank and then barricaded himself inside a Whittier apartment, authorities said.

The pursuit began about 10:15 p.m. Sunday near San Fernando Boulevard and Avon Street in Burbank, said California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball.

Police and CHP officers were led along the 5, 60 and 605 freeways until the driver of the black Nissan Frontier pickup went onto surface streets and bailed out and ran inside an apartment complex at 8356 Sergeant Ave. in Whittier, Kimball said.

A passenger in the pickup was detained, Kimball said.

It was unclear at what time he was caught.
