Man Held in Santa Ana Woman’s Death

by Contributing Editor

A man is being held in connection with the suspicious death of a person described by authorities as an elderly woman, who was found dead inside her home in Santa Ana, police said Sunday.

Officers went to a home in the 1200 block of South Baker Street at about 10:40 a.m. Saturday for a death investigation, met with a family member and located the homeowner dead inside, reported the Santa Ana Police Department, adding that “based on witness statements and their observations inside the home, the officers suspected foul play.”

Her manner and cause of death were not immediately known.

At approximately 1:43 p.m., a man approached the home in a vehicle and when officers tried to speak with him, the man drove away triggering a slow-speed pursuit.

The pursuit ended in Irvine, where the man barricaded himself inside the vehicle.

A K-9 unit was able to apprehend the suspect, who was then taken to an area trauma center for injuries suffered during his apprehension.

Santa Ana police asked anyone with information regarding the death to call them at 714-245-8665.
