STUDIO CITY — A vehicle struck a fire hydrant Saturday night in Studio City, shearing it from its connection and causing a large geyser that soaked power lines and triggered a power outage to nearly 1,100 Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 6:45 p.m. at Cahuenga Boulevard and Regal Place, according to LADWP spokesman Albert Rodriguez.
The resulting geyser affected transformers for two circuits that provide electricity to Studio City, Universal City and Hollywood Hills, cutting power to those areas, Rodriguez said.
Repairs could take hours, he said. The power lines must be de-energized so that the water can be turned off and a crane will be needed to hoist new transformers into place.
