CHP: Two Hurt in Crash on Interstate 15 in Elsinore, Half Freeway Blocked

by Contributing Editor

Two people were injured Friday, one seriously, in a rollover crash on Interstate 15 near Lake Elsinore that forced a partial closure of the freeway.

The collision happened about 11 a.m. on northbound I-15, near Railroad Canyon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The agency said that an SUV slammed into the rear of a sedan, which caused the smaller vehicle to flip over, onto its roof.

The driver of the sedan was ejected onto the roadway, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The victim was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar for treatment of life-threatening injuries, according to reports from the scene.

The other driver suffered unspecified minor to moderate injuries and was also taken to a hospital, officials said.

A SigAlert was issued about 11:20 a.m. as traffic stacked up for miles in the obstructed northbound lanes.

CHP officers opened the freeway center median to get traffic moving again.
