Ex-teacher’s assistant pleads no contest to sexually abusing 6 female students at a North Hollywood elementary school

A former teacher’s assistant at a North Hollywood elementary school pleaded no contest Friday to sexually abusing six female students.

Lino Cabrera, 27, of San Fernando, pleaded to felony counts of continuous sexual abuse and lewd act upon a child under 14, along with four misdemeanor counts of child molestation, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Under the terms of his plea agreement, Cabrera — who worked in a computer lab at Oxnard Street Elementary School — is expected to be sentenced to eight years in prison when he returns to court in Van Nuys Feb. 10.

He will also be required to register as a sex offender for life.

Allegations of inappropriate behavior by Cabrera arose May 16, 2019, and an investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Sexually Exploited Child Unit determined there were at least six victims, ages 10 and 11, according to the LAPD.

Prosecutors said the lewd conduct occurred between September 2016 and May 2019.

All of the victims were Oxnard Street Elementary students, Los Angeles Unified School District officials said at the time.

“The employee was removed from the Oxnard Street school in May, when the initial allegation was made, and parents were notified at that time,” said a district statement issued last year. “The safety and well-being of our students remains our top priority. … We will remain vigilant in protecting our students from those who would do them harm. We expect every person in Los Angeles Unified to fulfill their commitment to keep our students and schools safe.”
