Suspect in Santa Ana Chase Fighting for His Life

by Contributing Editor

A 26-year-old Huntington Beach man accused of leading police in Santa Ana on a chase early Thursday was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, was speeding in a stolen pickup when police tried to pull him over about 1 a.m., according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna. When the suspect refused to stop at McFadden Avenue and Fairview Street, it triggered a pursuit that strayed into oncoming traffic on McFadden, Bertagna said.

The driver collided with a bobtail truck northbound on Harbor Boulevard at McFadden, ending the pursuit, he said.

The suspect was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange in critical condition, he said. The driver of the bobtail truck escaped injury.

Anyone who witnessed the event was asked to call Cpl. Daniel Carrillo at 714-245-8346.
