Metrolink Train Hits Vehicle in Santa Fe Springs; No Injuries Reported

by Contributing Editor

A Metrolink train crashed into a motor home in Santa Fe Springs Friday, resulting in no injuries but interrupting some rail service while an investigation was conducted, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 5:30 a.m. near Rosecrans and Marquardt avenues, according to Metrolink and reports from the scene.

Scott Johnson of Metrolink said Orange County Line train 681, bound for Los Angeles, hit a motor home on the tracks. Buses were brought in to assist rail passengers, he said.

No injuries were reported on the train or the vehicle, according to a dispatcher for the Santa Fe Springs Fire Department.

In the aftermath of the crash, Johnson had said the train was the first operating along the Orange County Line for the day, and rail service on that line “likely will not be available” all day.

However, about 9 a.m. Johnson said train service had resumed on the Orange County Line, but some residual delays were expected on that line and also on the 91/Perris Valley Line.

According to reports from the scene, the motor home was occupied by one or more people who fled the scene of the crash, and police were going to the home of the registered owner as part of their investigation.
