Three Men Arrested on Suspicion of Fatal Shooting at College

Three men were behind bars Tuesday on suspicion of killing a motorist in what police say was a “targeted” attack that resulted in the victim crashing on the Santa Ana College campus.

The three suspects are accused of killing 29-year-old Osvaldo Garcia of Santa Ana, according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

Antonio Lamont Triplett, 49, of Long Beach and two other men, whose names were not immediately released, were arrested in connection with the shooting, Bertagna said. Charges against at least one of the men are expected to be filed Wednesday.

Police were called to a traffic crash at 17th and Bristol streets just before 1 a.m. Monday, Bertagna said, adding that two minutes later, they received a call regarding shots being fired near Bristol and Washington Avenue.

When officers arrived they saw a wrecked car in the 1500 block of North Bristol Street on shrubs at the college campus. Nearby, officers found the body of Garcia, who appeared to have died as a result of gunshot wounds, Bertagna said.

Police have not announced a possible motive in the shooting, but said the victim appeared to have been targeted.
