Two Arrested in La Quinta Storage Facility Break-Ins

by Contributing Editor

A New Mexico couple was arrested in connection with a series of burglaries at a La Quinta storage facility, authorities said Monday.

Joseph John Romero, 39, and Diane Marie Romero, 46, were arrested in a La Quinta shopping center early Sunday inside a stolen rental vehicle, according to La Quinta police Sgt. George Acevedo and sheriff’s inmate records.

Items allegedly taken in the burglaries were found in the vehicle, Acevedo said.

At least four burglaries occurred at the same storage facility in the 46000 block of Adams Street, including one on Thursday, he said.

After the arrests, deputies served a search warrant in the 78000 block of Avenida La Torres and seized “numerous stolen items linked to the burglaries,” Acevedo said.

Joseph Romero was cited for suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, second-degree burglary and possession of stolen property and released Sunday, according to inmate records.

Diane Romero was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio for suspicion of being a fugitive from justice and was held without bail, according to inmate records.
