by Contributing Editor

A 16-year-old boy and two young men were arrested Wednesday in connection with an armed robbery at a park in Coachella.

Christopher Topete, 20, and Joe Perdomo, 19, both of Coachella, were arrested along with the teen, during the serving of several search warrants in the eastern Coachella Valley, according to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Mariano Matos III.

The robbery occurred Sunday at De Oro Park, located in the area of Avenue 50 and Avenida De Oro. Sheriff’s officials said a weapon — a rifle — thought to be used in the robbery was found in the possession of one of the suspects.

Stolen property, along with Xanax pills and fentanyl thought to be for sale, were also located during the search warrant execution, authorities said.

Both Topete and Perdomo were booked at the Benoit Detention Center in Indio on suspicion of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery, and were being held in lieu of $75,000 bail.

Topete was additionally booked on suspicion of possessing various drugs for sale, and had multiple warrants out for his arrest, authorities said.

Perdomo was additionally booked on suspicion of using a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The 16-year-old boy, whose name was withheld because he is underage, was booked into juvenile hall on suspicion of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.
