A probationer accused of fatally shooting a 37-year-old man in the Badlands area east of Moreno Valley made his initial court appearance Wednesday.
Dominique Kehem Kyles, 28, of Moreno Valley was arrested last week following an investigation into the slaying earlier this month of Christian Cazarez, also of Moreno Valley.
Kyles is charged with murder and sentence-enhancing gun and great bodily injury allegations.
Kyles appeared before Riverside County Superior Court Judge Timothy Hollenhorst, who appointed him a public defender and scheduled his arraignment for Dec. 9 at the Banning Justice Center.
Kyles is being held without bail at the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.
According to sheriff’s Sgt. Ben Ramirez, on the afternoon of Nov. 9, Kyles and Cazarez were involved in an unspecified confrontation in the 13700 block of Laurene Lane, just south of the Moreno Valley (60) Freeway, culminating in Kyles allegedly shooting Cazarez several times.
Cazarez’s remains were discovered in a house later that day.
In the ensuing investigation, homicide detectives obtained information pointing to Kyles as the shooter, Ramirez alleged.
An arrest warrant was served at his home in the 14900 block of Curry Street last Thursday, at which point he was taken into custody without incident.
Kyles has a prior misdemeanor conviction for driving under the influence, according to court records.
