A 91-year-old woman, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, was found in El Sereno Monday, where she slept in a driveway for five days after being reported missing from Alhambra, prompting a Silver Alert.

Baudelia Ruiz was reported missing from Alhambra on Thursday and spotted about 5:15 p.m. Monday in the area of Eastern Avenue and Valley Boulevard, according to the Alhambra Police Department.

A woman recognized Ruiz from a missing person flyer and called the Alhambra Police Department, police said. Officers responded to the area and made contact with Ruiz.

Ruiz’s nephew was called to the area to confirm that the woman was Ruiz, and the Los Angeles Fire Department assessed her and found that she did not need medical attention, according to police.

Ruiz, who only speaks Spanish, had boarded a bus from an unknown area on Nov. 18 and exited the bus near Valley Boulevard and Eastern Avenue, where she slept in a driveway until being found, police said.

The Silver Alert program was established to issue and coordinate alerts involving the unexplained or suspicious disappearance of elderly, developmentally disabled and cognitively impaired individuals, according to the California Highway Patrol.
