Machete-Wielding Man Accused of Attacking Teen Girl

A 35-year-old machete-wielding man was charged Thursday with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old at an Anaheim hotel.

Richard Spindola was charged with lewd act on a child 14 or 15, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, statutory rape and sodomy of a victim younger than 16, all felonies, according to court records.

Police were called to the Courtyard by Marriott Anaheim Resort at 2045 S. Harbor Blvd. at 11:08 p.m. Monday regarding a man wielding a machete, said Anaheim Police Department Sgt. Shane Carringer.

When officers arrived they determined it was a domestic violence situation between the defendant and his 15-year-old girlfriend of 18 months, Carringer said. Spindola is accused of attacking the girl with a machete as he sexually assaulted her, Carringer said.
