by City News Service

WEST COVINA — The driver of a white Volvo sedan led Azusa police on an hour-long pursuit on freeways and roadways Saturday until officers used a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver to stop the car in West Covina, authorities said.

The chase began at 4:27 p.m. when an Azusa officer attempted a traffic stop at Mauna Loa and Barranca avenues and the driver of a white car refused to stop. Azusa police Lt. Nick Covarrubias said.

The pursuit continued on freeways and roadways from the Los Angeles area through Montebello, Industry and Pomona and finally West Covina, at times at speeds topping 100 mph.

It was there that Azusa officers stopped the car on Grand Avenue near Hillside Drive.

Two men and a boy were taken into custody, Covarrubias said.

The driver faces felony evading charges and he was not certain about the fates of the two passengers pending an investigation.

No injuries were reported.
