Six people were arrested early Thursday while allegedly trying to free a female protester from police custody at a crime scene where an officer fatally shot a suspect who was allegedly trying to rob four people at gunpoint in South Los Angeles.
About 2:30 a.m., the female protester crossed yellow crime scene tape at the crime scene near the corner of 111th and Figueroa streets, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. She was detained, and six people “crossed the crime scene tape and attempted to free the female from police custody.” One officer sustained a hand injury, police said.
Officers arrested:
— Avery Anglin, 22, of Los Angeles;
— Alyssa Blair, 20, of Monrovia;
— Courtney Costello, 28, of Rosemead;
— Torrey Costello, 27, of Rosemead;
— Scotty Harrison, 25, of Los Angeles;
— Marlon Pacheco, 20, of Los Angeles; and
— Efrain Acevedo, 30, of Los Angeles.
It was not immediately clear which of the people arrested was the first person to cross the crime scene tape.
Officers at the scene were investigating after police fatally shot an armed suspect they say was trying to rob four people sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot of a gas station.
The armed man allegedly approached the four people in a vehicle around 9:55 p.m. Wednesday and pointed the weapon at the victims, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
“An LAPD Southeast patrol unit was traveling eastbound on 111th (Street) and saw the suspect and victims,” according to a statement from the department. “The officers stopped and gave the suspect commands which he failed to comply with — at which point an officer-involved shooting occurred.”
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, and a gun was recovered.
His name was not disclosed.
